NEWARK, NJ — Staff members at a Newark charter school network rolled up their sleeves and pitched in for the election effort in the city’s South Ward on Tuesday.

All staff at the Brick Education Network (BEN) were given the day off and encouraged to use it to make a difference on a local level. Many took advantage of the chance, administrators reported.

Some gave local voters rides to the polls. Others hit the phones, making hundreds of calls to remind people to cast their ballots.
