NEWARK, NJ — He was adopted twice and returned. But the longest-running resident at the Associated Humane Society shelter in Newark is still smiling and in search of a forever home.

On Sunday, the Friends of the Associated Humane Society-Newark put out a call of support for Tortellini, a down-on-his-luck dog who has been at the shelter since 2018.

“Yes, he has been waiting three years,” the group stated, adding that Tortellini has been adopted twice and returned “though no fault of his own.”

According to the group’s social media post:

“We are looking for a patient family or rescue that is willing to give this adorable guy the time to decompress and see the amazing boy we know he is. Tortellini is a volunteer favorite. We adore him! He is a gentleman on leash (see video here) and very treat-motivated. Tortellini would do best in an adult-only home and no other pets. He needs an experienced owner who is willing to put the time, love, patience and training into helping this boy be the best we know he can be. He deserves a chance. Please help share him so we can find Tortellini his forever home. A boy that has so much potential. We as volunteers love this boy with all our hearts! We would be forever grateful to any family or rescue partner that is willing to give this amazing boy a chance. Tortellini has a commitment of help with his training free of charge to his adopters.”

Anyone interested in meeting Tortellini can call the shelter to make an appointment at 973-824-7080. Rescue groups can contact Sherri at slaraway@ahsppz.org.
