Newark Hospital Celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Raises Awareness
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center CEO: "We are proud to raise awareness about the disparities that impact this community."

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, a RWJBarnabas Health facility, raised a flag in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Awareness Month on Tuesday.
Newark Beth Israel’s Business Resource Group, Providing, Respect, Inclusion, Dignity and Empowerment (PRIDE) hosted the annual event for 2021.
“Newark Beth Israel Medical Center recognizes the importance of fostering diversity, inclusion and equity for our patients, employees, and the surrounding community,” president and CEO Darrell Terry Sr. said.

“This month we are proud to raise the LGBTQ+ flag and to raise awareness about the disparities that impact this community,” Terry added.
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has received four consecutive HEI designations for promoting equitable and inclusive care for LGBTQ+ patients and their families.

The flag raising marks the beginning of a series of events to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Awareness Month at Newark Beth Israel including, a display of 11 flags representing different segments of the LGBTQ+ community, hospital administrators said.
The following flags will be on display in one of the hospital’s main corridors throughout the month of June: Transgender Pride Flag, Philadelphia People of Color Flag, Gender Fluid Pride Flag, Intersex Pride Flag, Coexist Flag, Progress Pride Flag, Ally Flag, Pansexual Pride Flag, Nonbinary Pride Flag, Equality Pride Flag, and the Bisexual Pride Flag.
In addition, employees will participate in several events that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, such as “Bright Color Fridays” where staff may choose to wear colorful clothing on Friday, and an internal department decorating contest.
