Newark Museum Will Honor MLK Day With Public Celebration

The Newark Museum plans to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. for 2019 with a civil rights-themed celebration.

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Museum plans to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. for 2019 with a celebration from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21.

According to an event post from the museum, their annual tribute event “fills up quickly every year,” and participants should reserve a spot as soon as possible. (Learn more about this local event here)

“Join us as we honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and help fulfill his dream of building a "beloved community" while passing on his message of freedom and equality to future generations.”

Activities will include:

  • Premier Dance Theatre Live Performance a tribute to civil rights
  • Newark @ Newark Museum Scavenger hunt
  • Planetarium Show by local artist “Gourd”
  • Pop-up Spoken word with local poets
  • Film Screening of the “I Have a Dream” speech by MLK Jr.
  • Art Making for Families - Make your own unity candle
  • Community photo montage
  • Dr King Build a Button Station

The Newark Museum is located at 49 Washington Street. Admission to the Jan. 21 event is free for Newark residents and museum members, and $5 for others.
