Newark Park Shooting ‘Doesn’t Appear To Be Random,’ Police Say

A 43-year-old victim died after being shot in a park on Clinton Avenue in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A 43-year-old victim died last weekend after being shot in a park on Clinton Avenue in Newark, authorities said.

Maurice Hudson, 43, was fatally shot in a park located on the 500-block of Clinton Avenue on Friday, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Hudson was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m., authorities said.

“The incident does not appear to be random,” prosecutors said Monday. “No arrests have been made at this time.”

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting.
