UPDATE: See how the winter storm is affecting parking, travel, flooding, garbage and the "Code Blue" in Newark.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark public safety officials are warning residents to stay indoors and off the roads as a winter storm settles across much of New Jersey.
State officials have imposed travel restrictions, and weather forecasters predict that a nor'easter could impact New Jersey well into Tuesday. Heavy snow is possible and winds could gust as high as 50 mph. More than an inch per hour could fall during the height of the storm, which could be anytime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said. Newark officials warned that snow and/or rain may produce flooding in certain areas.

Residents were asked to observe the city’s “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations due to the expected snowfall. Signs have been posted on streets throughout the City of Newark to notify motorists of the streets designated for no parking during snowstorms. Motorists and residents were urged to look for the sign to identify the streets where the parking ban will be enforced.
Violators can expect to be issued a summons and towed, Newark officials said.
"These regulations are essential to the removal/plowing of snow and salting operations and to allow emergency vehicles to pass," officials said. "Whenever possible, off-street parking is recommended during snowstorms. That may mean partnering with a neighbor to use their driveway."
Tossing snow into the street is against the law, and violators will be fined, Newark officials stated.
