Newark Sees Fatal Shooting, Stabbing Just Hours Apart: Police

A fatal stabbing took place on Lincoln Avenue. Just hours later, a fatal shooting took place on Madison Avenue.

NEWARK, NJ -- A fatal stabbing and fatal shooting took place in Newark just hours apart on Saturday, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, police officers responded to the 100-block of Lincoln Avenue at 2:35 a.m. after getting reports about a stabbing. Officers found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds on the sidewalk.

The victim, Norman Corlette, 24, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

FATAL SHOOTING

Hours later, officers were dispatched to the 100-block of Madison Avenue after getting reports about gunfire in the area.

Police found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, Marquise Mclamb, 35, of Newark, was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 a.m., authorities said.

No arrests have been made related to the shooting, police added.
