Newark Woman Accused Of Stabbing Man To Death In His Home

A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed a Newark man to death during an argument, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed a Newark man to death in his home during an argument last weekend, authorities said.

Latysha Simmons, 29, of Newark, has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of Darien Wharton, 29, at his home on the 400-block of University Avenue on Saturday, authorities said.

Wharton was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:29 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

In addition to murder, Simmons has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. She is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the stabbing.
