UPDATE: Blizzard Forces New Date For Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade, NJ's Oldest
The oldest St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Jersey will be back in Newark for an 82nd year of festivities.

NEWARK, NJ — Update: According to social media posts from the Newark Fire Department and the Nutley Irish American Association, the Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade has been rescheduled for Friday, March 24, due to this week's blizzard. Our original article follows below.
The oldest ongoing St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New Jersey will be back in Newark on Friday, March 17 for its 82nd year of festivities.
Starting at 1 p.m., the parade route will progress from the Prudential Center on Mulberry Street past 4 Gateway Center, NJPAC, Military Park, St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral, the Newark Museum and Washington Park, according to organizers.

This year, the parade will be presided over by its Grand Marshal, the Rev. Edwin D. Leahy, headmaster of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, and its Deputy Grand Marshal, Elizabeth “Betty” Teevan, a proprietor of The Full Shilling Irish Restaurant and Pub in the Wall Street area of New York City.
The 82nd Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade is dedicated to Robert “Bob” H. Largey and the late Marguerite “Marge” Quinn Largey.

According to parade organizers:
“Born in Jersey City, Marguerite Largey’s heritage connected her to Counties Waterford and Roscommon. She was employed by the N.J. Bell Telephone Company as an administrative assistant in the Human Resources department for 40 years, retiring in 1991.”
“Born in Orange, Robert Largey is a first generation Irish-American, coming from County Mayo and County Armagh. He had a successful career for 28 years in the investment banking business and later worked for the County of Essex Office of Management and Budget, retiring in early 1994.”
Cardinal Joseph William Tobin will be the principle celebrant and homilist at a memorial Mass and the investiture of the parade’s grand marshal and deputy grand marshal. The Mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral on Parade morning — March 17 — at 9:15 a.m. and will feature the Newark Firefighters Pipe Band and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Color Guard.
