Rutgers Newark to Close Early as Storm Begins

Rutgers will shut down classes at 4 p.m., while other local schools plan afternoon decisions


Rutgers University Newark, as well as all other Rutgers campuses, announced an emergency closure starting at 4 p.m. Monday until 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Non-essential employees are being asked to remain home, but essential employees are being asked to report to work.

Essex County College, which has campuses in Newark and West Caldwell, closed its campus at 1 p.m. The schedule for tomorrow will be updated at 5 a.m. The school also closed the Essex County Police Academy, which operates in Cedar Grove.

New Jersey Institute of Technology, in Newark, will cancel all classes between 4 p.m and the end of the day Tuesday. All offices will remain closed until Wednesday.

Seton Hall University, based in South Orange, said the campus will shut down at 1 p.m. and will remain closed all day on Tuesday.

Bloomfield College has cancelled all classes as of noon today and will remain closed on Tuesday.

Montclair State University remains open, but will provide an update at noon. A 7:30 p.m. media panel entitled ‘Tracking Chris Christie’ has been postponed until further notice.

Caldwell University will close at 1 p.m. and remain closed on Tuesday.
