Veteran Newark EMT, East Orange Firefighter Passes Away: Claude Sherman
Essex County has lost a lifelong firefighter and EMT, Claude Sherman, officials say.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County has lost a lifelong firefighter and EMT, Claude Sherman, officials say.
The Newark-based University Hospital EMS posted the sad news about Sherman’s passing on its Facebook page late Thursday.
“Once again the halls of University Hospital EMS have become dimmer as the passing of long time EMT and rescue specialist Claude Sherman is shared,” the post stated.

“Claude was a career firefighter with East Orange Fire Department and a veteran EMT with the [University Hospital EMS]. Claude was always remembered as the strong, wise and compassionate person to all of his patients and coworkers. We lost another brother that we loved and cherished and our lives our richer for having known him.”
