America's No. 1 Burger Right Here in Bergen County
Never heard of Habit Burger? You're not alone: Chain has opened its first East Coast location in Fair Lawn.

There are a lot of stereotypes that can be said about people from New Jersey, but one we can all boast proudly in agreement of is we know good food. From our Taylor ham to the Rutgers’ Grease Truck and our unparalleled corn and tomatoes, New Jersey residents are confident going toe to toe with any Chicago or New York City food snob.
It’s a little surprising then to find out we have the country’s best cheeseburger now right here in the great Garden State, and none of us have ever even heard of it.

Now open in Fair Lawn, Habit Burger Grill was recently voted America’s best fast food burger by Consumer Reports, despite being virtually unheard of along the East Coast.
The first Habit Burger Grill was founded in Santa Barbara in 1969, and although the chain has grown to become competitive against California’s hugely popular In-N-Out Burger, New Jersey will be its very first restaurant along the East Coast.

Strategically located within a short distance of New York City and surrounded by New Jersey’s major thoroughfares, Fair Lawn was a smart choice for the chain’s first restaurant. It’s located in the new luxury strip mall Fair Lawn Promenade, and includes many new and trendy chains, such as Starbucks, European Wax, Noodles & Company, and Cups Frozen Yogurt.
The Habit Bar Grill, however, remains true to the majority of chains in the fast food industry with a less luxury, more affordable offering. Besides burgers, customers can order items such as sundaes, shakes, and salads.
The menu seems typical and inexpensive, which makes it even more confusing to us East Coasters as to why it was crowned the best beef patty in the entire country. In fact, the Charburger is just a classic patty with ”mayonnaise, pickle, fresh tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions on a toasted bun”. Hardly unexplored territory, and yet the number of votes in the Consumer Report speaks for itself: with a voted 8.1 out of 10, it beat In-N-Out and Five Guys for the top spot.
