Berkely Students Get Special Visit on 'Read Across America Day'

Authour and illustrator Douglas Florian visits Berkely Elementary School.

Berkely Elementary School received a visit Friday from author and illustrator Douglas Florian. Florian, who has penned and illustrated over 50 books, used humor and audience participation to generate excitement and understanding among the students.

Taking the students through the process of creating a book, Florian discussed where he gets his ideas from and the importance of research.  He also enthusiastically recited poems from his books. A few students from grades 3, 4 and 5 had the opportunity to eat lunch with Florian where the conversation continued.

In anticipation of his visit, students were able to purchase books in advance for Florian to autograph personally.

Berkley Elementary School thanks Douglas Florian for visiting the students, as well as the Berkley Street PTO for making it possible to invite authors such as Douglas Florian to visit.

There was no better way to celebrate “Read Across America Day” then with a visit from an author/illustrator. The students enjoyed having such a humorous and talented author at their school.
