Brookchester Rehabilitation Presentation Slated for Wednesday

Brunetti's proposal to rehabilitate 750 apartments, add approximately 400 more in three and four-story apartments has the mayor and council considering rezoning the area.

Joseph Brunetti, second generation owner of the 70-year old Brookchester garden apartment complex, will give a presentation laying out his plans to rehabilitate, replace and extensively repair approximately 750 units at Wednesday's meeting of the Mayor and Council. Brookchester, an expansive complex of approximately 1300 units built in the 1950's, spans from River Road to Boulevard.

Borough Planner, Paul Grygiel, had said that in addition to renovating 750 units, Brunetti also intends to add approximately 400 more in a three or four-story design, necessitating the need for a zoning change.

Mayor Ann Subrizi had reported that Brunetti offered to cover New Milford's entire COAH obligation as it exists today --14 units as defined by the Fair Housing Council for the third round--if allowed to go forward with his plans.

Subrizi recommended that the board, along with the borough planner, review Brookchester's zoning and consider amending it since the Brookchester property is currently zoned C-Garden apartments.

The Mayor and Council meeting begins with a work session at 7 p.m. in the second floor conference room of Borough Hall. The regular public meeting begins at 7:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Borough Hall.
