Dumont establishes new Celebrations Committee
Mayor and Council create committee to promote and develop community and Borough events
At the February 20, 2020 Dumont Borough Mayor and Council meeting, Mayor Andrew LaBruno and the Dumont Council established Dumont's Celebrations Committee. The main function of the new Committee is to organize, implement, and produce community and Borough events to serve the residents and surrounding towns.
The ordinance establishing the Committee states that it will be comprised of five residential members plus five Borough members, the latter consisting of the Dumont Recreation Director, DPW Representative, Police Department Representative, Fire Department Representative, and Ambulance Corps Representative. The Committee will also include liaisons from the Recreation Commission, Beautification Committee, Economic Development Committee, Dixon Homestead Library Board of Trustees, Dumont Shade Tree Commission, Board of Health, Dumont Stigma-Free Committee, and Borough Council.
"The saying goes, 'It takes a village...', and that is precisely the atmosphere we are trying to create with this Committee," said Mayor LaBruno. "Our goal is to have our community and Borough members working together to produce, promote, and develop community events for our residents. Based on my experience in hosting community events for the past several years with the Dumont Community Group, we sometimes found it challenging to maintain a consistent volunteer base. I believe this Committee will be the hub for that base."

Dumont Borough Council President Carole Stewart, who was also the proponent of the recently-created Stigma-Free Committee, added: "After a meeting with our Recreation Director and Mayor LaBruno, we believed the establishment of this Committee would help us be successful in expanding our Borough events and help us improve our current wonderful town celebrations. I look forward to working with the Mayor and our new Committee as we come together to provide our residents with these great events."
Residents will be able to apply for the Celebrations Committee for both Member and Volunteer positions on the Borough website at https://dumontnj.gov/notices-announcements/711-celebrations-committee-volunteer-application. The deadline to apply is April 8, 2020.
