Patrick O'Leary, 96, WWII Veteran Of New Milford, Died Saturday

O'Leary was a 34-year member of the New York City Fire Department and chief of the 25th Battalion.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — Patrick John O'Leary, 96, of New Milford, a World War II veteran who was a 34-year-old member of the New York City Fire Department, died Saturday.

O'Leary, formerly of New York City, served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Charles Ausburne, his obituary said.

O'Leary was born in Cork City, Ireland and moved to New York City as a teenager. He was a 34-year member of the New York Fire Department, and retired as chief of the 25th Battalion, the obituary said.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen, son, Donald, and brother, Denis.

He is survived by his children, Richard, and his wife Nancy, Stephen, and his wife, Donna, Robert McGuire, and his wife, Rosemary, and Douglas McGuire; grandchildren Melissa, Richard, Jennifer, Robert, Brian, Kathleen, Stephanie, Stephen, Kelly, Colleen, and Erin; 17 great grandchildren; and siblings, Christopher, Sean, and Mary.

Visitation with the family is Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Volk Leber Funeral Home in Oradell. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Oradell. Cremation will be private.
