Lenten Services, Bible Study Begins at Faith Lutheran Church

The Lenten season has begun at Faith Lutheran in New Providence. Spoken and sung services along with bible study classes are scheduled.

On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence will begin the Lenten Season, a period of repentance and renewal, with three Eucharistic Services.

A Spoken Eucharist with the optional Imposition of Ashes, will occur at 6:45 am and again at 12:15 pm. Each of the two liturgies is about thirty minutes in length.

A fully sung Eucharist, with the optional Imposition of Ashes, will be held at 7:30 pm. At each of the services the title of the sermon will be, “Keep Us.”

During each subsequent Wednesday in Lent, Faith will conduct a spoken Eucharistic Service at 6:45 am and 12:15 pm as well as an Evening and Eucharistic Service at 7:30 pm. The theme of the services will be “Jesus Calls Us.”

Faith Lutheran conducts an open communion table. All visitors, who are baptized members of the Christian Church and who believe that in the Holy Sacrament they receive God’s gift of life and forgiveness, are welcome to the Lord’s Table.

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 23 and continuing on each Monday through March 23, from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, Rev. Dr. Murdoch MacPherson will lead a Lenten Evening Bible Study, entitled, “Making Sense of the Christian Faith.” The course, written by Dr. David Lose, looks at the basic theology of Christianity; exploring Creation, Sin, Covenant, Community and other understandings of who Christians are and what their purpose is.

Members of the community are invited to each of the services and the bible study.
