Village Center Parking Solution Still in the Works
'No Parking' signs temporarily taken down from New Providence lot.

Borough officials are working on solving a parking issue that has impacted shoppers parking in the Village Shopping Center lot.
A “no parking” sign recently was taken down but could be erected again if the property owner, tenants and the borough cannot work out an arrangement, according to nj.com.
The sign had gone up after center tenants complained about shoppers parking there to frequent businesses not in the shopping center.

Center tenants pay for maintenance of the lot, but the burden is not distributed equally, the report said.
“Others pay nothing, but their customers and employees use the lot,” Councilman Gary Kapner told nj.com.

The councilman said it would be a “benefit to New Providence and all the shoppers in town to be able to park where they want and pay nothing.” As that isn’t a viable option, Kapner is hoping to bring the affected parties together and hope they “see the light” toward a solution.
