Abused Dog Found In Rabbit Cage Gets Help From Bergen Nonprofit

Magnolia is 'one of the worst cases of neglect we have seen,' the people at Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge said.

OAKLAND, NJ — Magnolia was found discarded in rabbit cage with no water, severely dehydrated and matted, and limping.

The staff at Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge took Magnolia in and began caring for her.

"She could not walk comfortably, eat or even use the bathroom without difficulty due to the severity of her matts," said Megan Brinster, the organization's executive director. "Matts like this take years to form."

A veterinarian found Magnolia has a back disc disease. She has severe dental disease and a broken jaw, which was infected and rotting. Her muscles are wasting away.

"She has lived a life of suffering, and to allow her to finally be free of these ailments Magnolia has required intensive hospitalization and care," Brinster said.
