OAKLAND, NJ — Could New Jersey be home to the next “Grumpy Cat”? The folks at Oakland’s Halfway Home Animal Rescue seem to think so.

Last week, the organization introduced Mr. Marbles to the world in a Facebook post featuring a photo of the adoptable tuxedo cat who looks as if he’s spent a few of his nine lives.

A quick glance at the photo reveals Mr. Marbles has an interesting — and perhaps inspiring — cat tale.

He was brought to Halfway Home after a good Samaritan found him lying injured on Route 17, where he was likely hit by a car and left for dead. Luckily, Mr. Marbles suffered only some bruises and a broken tooth.

A closer look, however, revealed the tuxedo kitty has a few congenital deformities. He’s very small and has a large, round head, Frannie Laurita of Halfway Home told Patch. While unsure of his exact age, Laurita described Marbles as an “older kitten.”

The defects also affect his eyes, giving him an undeniable “Grumpy Cat” look.

“We think these things add character, and that Marbles is extra-cute exactly the way he is,” Laurita said, adding he has the “perfect face for Instagram fame.”

Beneath his weathered exterior, however, Marbles is perfectly healthy, Laurita told Patch.

While this dashing young guy is shy at heart, he’s slowly but surely coming out of his shell. Laurita said there “isn’t a mean bone in his body,” and he loves playing with toys and napping in his hammock.

The perfect home for Mr. Marbles would be a calm one where he has plenty of time and space to acclimate, Laurita added. His person (or people) should be kind, patient and understanding of all he’s been through.

If you think your family can nurture Mr. Marbles to Instagram fame, fill out an adoption form at the Halfway Home Animal Rescue Team's website.
