Program Aims to Help Bergen Restaurants Survive, Thrive

New workshop will help new and established restaurant owners succeed in an industry where 60 percent fail in the first year.

Bergen County’s small business mentorship program is offering a program aimed at helping restaurateurs develop plans for success in the highly competitive food industry.

SCOREBergen’s “How to Operate a Restaurant and Overcome the High Failure Rate” will feature restaurateur and consultant Robert Gatollari and a panel of experts in financial management, using social media to market your restaurant and other best marketing practices will explain how avoid pitfalls and attain longevity in the industry, according to a press release.

SCORE estimates that sixty percent of food industry businesses fail within the first year of operation.

The Bergen County chapter of the national non-profit is hosting the event at the Maywood Public Library on June 11 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The event costs $20 if attendees pre-register or $30 at the door. 

This workshop will discuss topics such as selecting a location, cost control, differentiating you business, business layout, hiring effectively, knowing when to change a menu and how to pass health and fire inspections.
