Oakland School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Oakland is September 6. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Oakland Public School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 9/4: Labor Day
• 9/5: Staff Development Day
• 9/6: First Day for Students
• 9/11: Grades PreK-5 Minimum Day (Elementary Back-to-School Night)
• 9/13: Grades 6-8 Minimum Day (VMS Back-to-School Night)
• 9/21: No School (Rosh Hashanah)

October

• 10/9: Minimum Day for Students (Staff Development Day)

November

• 11/7: No School (Election Day)
• 11/9 - 11/10: No School (NJEA Convention)
• 11/15: Minimum Day for Students (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
• 11/16: Minimum Day for Students (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
• 11/22: Minimum Day
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/22: Minimum Day
• 12/25 - 12/29: No School (December Recess)

January

• 1/1: No School (New Year's Day)
• 1/2: Schools Reopen
• 1/15: Minimum Day for Students (Staff Development Day)

February

• 2/19 - 2/20: No School (President's Days)

March

• 3/30: No School (Good Friday)
