Obituary: Barbara McKeon Markoplis, Of Oakland, Longtime Nanny

Markpolis moved around a lot as a child because her father served in the military.

OAKLAND, N.J. — Barbara McKeon Markoplis, of Oakland, died Wednesday.

She was born in an Army hospital in Fort Meade, Maryland, where her father was stationed. She lived in several places, including England and Texas, before finally moving to Oakland when her father retired from military service.

She worked as a nanny for a Pompton Lakes family for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Jane, and brother Thomas.

She is survived by her son Michael, brothers John, and his wife Rita, and James, and his wife Jane and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Monday at Oakland Memorial Home. A funeral mass was held Tuesday at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Pompton Lakes.

Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
