Services Scheduled for Oakland Teen

Services for Michael Altana are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Fourteen year-old Michael Altana, an eighth grade student at Valley Middle School, died Sunday evening due to a brain aneurysm.

Services are planned for Friday, May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakland Memorial Home. Funeral services are planned for Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Altana, Michael Vladimir, 14, of Oakland, New Jersey passed away unexpectedly but peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends on April 28, 2013. Michael is survived by his proud and adoring parents David and Jill Altana, loving brother Brady (his best friend). Michael will forever be a gift to his family. His unquenchable spirit and boundless energy challenged him to try any new adventure that crossed his path including, skiing, surfing, lacrosse, hockey, football, basketball. He loved sports, he loved his friends, he loved to laugh, he loved life and lived every moment to the fullest.

A Facebook group titled “In Memory of Michael Altana” currently has 780 members. Many thoughtful youths from the area have posted pictures of their athletic equipment with Altana’s initials etched on.
