What's it Cost to Rent in Oakland?

Rentals in Oakland cost slightly more than surrounding towns, with a big difference depending on which side of town you reside.

How much does the average rental in Oakland cost?

More than the state average, it turns out. According to Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks, a website that uses Census data to track income and real estate statistics throughout the country, the median rental in New Jersey is between $928 and $1,071 a month.

Wherever you rent in Oakland, you're likely to pay more than that. But the rate varies depending on where in the borough you decide to move in.

East of Ramapo Valley Road and heading toward Franklin Lakes, the median rental will run $1,972, according to the website's data. When you get over the border into the neighboring borough, the median rate drops by $250.

On the other side of Ramapo Valley Road, the rates dip closer to the state average, with a median monthly rate of $1,324. When you get over the border into Wanaque, it drops down to $1,170.

While the rental rates show a big difference between the two sides of town, the median household incomes are just about even, hovering around $114,000 a year with no significant difference.
