Annual Paramus Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk Returns Next Month

Once again hundreds are expected to take part in the fight against pancreatic cancer when the 7th annual Paramus Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk returns this September.

Sign-ups are being accepted for this annual walk spearheaded each year by Jeanne Weber in memory of her husband Ron who lost his battle with the disease in 2005. Ron Weber was a well-known community member who served 12 years on the Paramus Board of Education. 

This year's walk is set for Sunday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Paramus Bergen Community College campus. People can sign up as individuals or start their own teams by visiting the walk's website.     

The walk raises funds for the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, a not-for-profit organization.  The organization works to fund research for diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of this disease which currently has no early detection methods and no effective treatments and no cure. 

The American Cancer Society reports that 94 percent of those with this cancer die within 5 years of diagnosis, only 6 percent survive more than five years. Seventy-five percent die within one year of diagnosis.
