BCA Announces National Merit Accolades

The Principal of the Bergen County Academies announced today that 116 Bergen County Academies students were named as Commended Scholars and 35 achieved the distinction of Semifinalist, in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students, represent over 40 Bergen County communities. The Bergen County Academies is very proud of all of our scholars and wish them the best of luck with this prestigious scholarship program.

About 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Approximately 16,000 students are named as Semifinalists and many of these students will go on to become Finalists and Scholarship winners. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2021 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 353,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
