Library Opens Registration for Winter Programming

Registration is underway for a variety of winter programs for children of all ages at the Paramus Public Library.

Throughout the winter months, the Main and Branch libraries in Paramus will be hosting a variety of children's programming. Registration is required for many of the events by phone or in person for all programs requiring a sign-up.  

All activities are open to Paramus residents only and take place at the Main Library, 116 E. Century Rd.(201/599-1309) or the Reid Branch Library, 239 W. Midland Ave (201/444-4911).

Main Library

Storytimes are held for children as young as newborn through age 5 and registration is required.

  • Little Bookworms, a playgroup/storytime for 0-18 months is offered on Tuesdays at 10am at the Main library;
  • Teeny Time storytime for ages 18-30 months with caregiver, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:45am;
  • Tell Me A Story storytime for ages 2 ½ to 3 ½ year olds with caregiver, Tuesdays, 10am and Wednesdays, 11am; 
  • Picture Book Parade storytime for 3 ½ -5 year olds without caregivers Tuesdays, 11am and Thursdays, 1:15pm; 
  • Pajama Storytime is held on the following Tuesday evenings - Feb. 26 and March 19, 7pm

The ongoing Afterschool Adventures for grades K-3 will meet every
Thursday beginning Jan. 24 and ongoing monthly events include: Ravenous
Readers for grades 5-6 on Feb. 6 and March 5, 7pm; Page Turners Book Club for grades 3-4 on Feb. 5 and March 12, 4pm.

Winter special events at the Main Library include Happy Birthday, Judy
Blume! for grades 3-5 on Feb. 11 at 4pm; Gung Hay Fat Choy- A
Chinese New Year Party for grades K-4 on Feb. 13 at 4pm;
Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! on Feb. 15 for ages 2-5 at 10am
and Feb. 22 for grades K-4 at 3pm; and a Happy Valentine’s Day Party
for grades K-4 at 3:45pm on Feb. 14 at 4pm.

During the winter school break (Feb. 18-22), a Movie Matinee will be screened for all ages at 3pm on Monday; Edible Experiments on Tuesday at
3pm; Soaring on Wednesday at 3:00pm; Beach Party on Thursday
at 3:00pm, and Pancakes, Pancakes Pancakes! on Friday at
3:00pm.

Additional events include Read Across America Day! for ages 4 - grade 4 on
March 1 at 4pm; Edible Experiments for grades 3-4 on March 19; Elephant and Piggie Party for ages 4 - grade 2 on March 20, 3:45pm; Happy Birthday Randolph Caldecott! on March 22, 1:15pm and a Superhero Party on March 22 for grades K-4 at 4pm.

Reid Branch

At the Reid Branch Library the schedule for storytimes beginning
January 22 is:  

  • “Tell Me a Story” for  2-3 year olds with caregiver, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30-11am
  • Picture Book Parade for 3-5 year olds, throughout the day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Beginning Jan. 23  after school activities include: Wii Games every
Monday; Movie Matinees on Tuesdays; Arts & Crafts on Thursdays, and
Picture Bingo on Friday.

Special programs include: Chinese New Year’s Party on Feb. 8, 3-5pm; a Valentine’s Card Workshop for grades K-4 on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8 after school; and a Read Across America Party for all ages on  March 2, 3-5pm.

Teens

Teens will also find a lot to do at the library this winter.

  • Ravenous Readers for grades 5-6 on Mondays, 7:30pm
  •  Be’Tween cooking for grades 5-7 on FEb. 12 and March 12, 3:30pm
  • Pancakes, Pancakes, Pancakes! for grades 5-8 on Feb. 15
  • Art Kids Rule: Making Bali Masks grades 5-8 on Feb. 19; 
  • March Makeover Madness! for grades 5-8 on March 5, 3pm

Teen Tech Week is March 10-16 for grades 5 & up. The Teen Advisory Board ages 13-18, will meet monthly on  Feb. 4 and March 4 at 2:30pm. And at the Reid Branch Library, Teen Wednesdays from 3:30pm-5pm, will include a Cooking Club, Teen Crafts, Rock Band/Glee Karaoke.
