Lord & Taylor Closing More Stores, Paramus Locations Included
The oldest U.S. department store chain is closing all in-person locations after filing for bankruptcy earlier this month.

PARAMUS, NJ — Say goodbye to Lord & Taylor, Paramus.
After announcing a round of store closings last week, Le Tote, Inc. and Lord & Taylor announced that all 38 remaining retail stores will close, and begin "Going Out of Business" sales this week.
This, of course, includes the Garden State Plaza location, as well as the store at The Fashion Center.

The news comes swiftly after last week, it was reported that 24 of the 38 remaining stores operated by the apparel chain would close after Le Tote filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Aug. 2.

"While we are still entertaining various opportunities, we believe it is prudent to simultaneously put the remainder of the stores into liquidation to maximize value of inventory for the estate while pursuing options for the Company's brands," said Ed Kremer, the Company's chief restructuring officer.
The sales at the stores begin on Thursday and feature "deep discounts plus departmental promotions," according to a news release from the company.
Lord & Taylor is just the latest retail chain to file for bankruptcy amid the coronavirus pandemic, joining the likes of J. Crew, Neiman Marcus, Men's Warehouse and Ascena, the Mahwah-based owner of Ann Taylor.
In a brief "history" section on the company's website, the company says they are a "store of firsts."
"Not only are we the oldest American store of its kind, but we were the first to open a branch location, the first to offer personal shopping, the first to champion emerging designers — and the first to have a female president," the section read.
"It is truly a legacy to be proud of."
