Paramus DPW Collects for Brother Who Lost His Home in a Fire

Paramus DPW is taking up a collection to help longtime DPW and Paramus firefighter who lost his home in a fire.

Paramus DPW workers consider each other family. When one of them needs help the rest band together.

The group is reaching out to the community to collect for Gary DaSilva - a 22-year member of the DPW and volunteer firefighter in Paramus - whose Dumont home was destroyed in a fire weeks ago.

Gary, his wife Laura and their two sons Gary and Angelo escaped with literally the clothes on their back, says Sean Cullen, friend and fellow worker of the Paramus DPW.

Cullen is spearheading efforts for the DaSilva family. Not too long ago Cullen was on the receiving end of his brothers help. Cullen, who has been receiving treatments for Hodgkins Lympoma, was in need of some help last fall and his brothers came through holding a sold-out pasta dinner to help his family with the bills and give their support.

Cullen is now helping to return the favor along with other members of the DPW. They will be accepting donations of clothing, gift cards, cash and anything that could help the family during this time of need.

They organized a pasta dinner for Sunday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Paramus Elks Lodge. Tickets cost $25 and there will also be a 50/50. Proceeds will benefit the DaSilva family.
