Paramus Man Accused of Arming Hackensack Cop Shooter, Prosecutor Says

Bergen Prosecutor's Office arrested five people, two from Paramus, in connection with the July 22 shootout in Hackensack between a gunman and city police officers.

A Paramus man has been charged with providing an illegal handgun to a reported gang member accused of shooting at Hackensack police officers last month, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Prosecutors allege that Sean Stark, 22, of Paramus provided the .45 caliber handgun to Robert Leonardis, the man police say opened fire on Hackensack police officers resulting in a shoot out that injured one officer and landed Leonardis in custody.

Police believe Leonardis is a member of the Bloods gang, part of the S.M.M. or Sex, Money, Murder sector, according to a NorthJersey.com report. Leonardis remains in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, according to the Prosecutor's office.

Stark was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun during the commission of a crime. He also faces numerous drug charges including CDS distribution, possession of Ecstasy and Psilocybin.

Prosecutors say Stark worked with a Cliffside Park man and a Florida man to obtain the gun illegally.

Jerry A. Nunez "aka Angel", 21, of Cliffside Park, who allegedly sold the handgun to Stark for $500 after importing it via UPS from Florida was charged with unlawful sale and unlawful possession of a weapon as well drug charges for possession and intent to distribute Ecstasy and marijuana.

A Florida man, Jorge Alberto Rodriquez, 21, of Pembroke Pines was charged with selling and shipping the gun to Nunez. He remains in the Broward County Jail pending extradition to Bergen County, according to the Bergen Prosecutor.

A former law enforcement official from Florida sold the gun legally to a pawn shop, which in turn re-sold the gun to an unidentified individual, according to the Prosector's office release.  The State of Florida has lenient gun laws and only requires a driver's license for the sale of a gun, according to the release.

Police also charged Stark's roommate Alexander Kim, 21, of Paramus, with drug offenses and Stark's girlfriend, 22-year old Christiana L. Cyriax of Upper Saddle River, who police claim was involved with Stark in drug distribution.

Both Stark and Nunez were taken to the  Bergen County Jail, each on $250,000 bail.
