Paramus Primary Election Results

PARAMUS, NJ — Voting for the Democratic and Republican primaries in New Jersey has ended, and votes are being counted for two Council seats on both tickets.

Democrats Mariaelena Bellinger, a current council member, and Dominick Minervini are running for seats, as are Republicans Christopher DiPiazza, also a current council member, and Michael Rohdieck.

Here are the unofficial election results as of Wednesday night:

Democrat, Council Members

• Mariaelena Bellinger — 1,669
• Dominick Minervini — 1,587
• Write-in totals — 23

Republican, Council Members

• Christopher DiPiazza — 819
• Michael Rohdieck — 775
• Write-in totals — 11

Josh Gottheimer, the incumbent in the Fifth District, faces a primary challenge from Arati S. Kreibich, who once volunteered for the Gottheimer campaign.

On the Republican side, John McCann, who lost to Gottheimer in 2018, is back on the ballot, along with James Baldini, Frank Pallotta and Hector Castillo.

Of six Democratic candidates and two Republican candidates, two will become members of the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Vice Chairwoman Joan M. Voss is up for reelection, and Ridgewood Mayor Ramon Hache has his name on the ballot, as do Daniel Kim, Laura Occhipinti, Edmund Fanning and Patricia Henry on the Democratic ballot.

Republicans Ronald Kistner and Simone Tsigounis will also seek the two seats of the Board.

In the Senate race, incumbent, and former presidential-hopeful Cory Booker faces challenger Lawrence Hamm, an activist from Newark.

Hamm has been a relentless voice for civil rights since high school, when he spearheaded a student takeover of a local hotel to demand better facilities and an end to a teacher's strike.

That display of leadership earned him an appointment to the Newark Board of Education, making him the youngest school board member in the United States at the age of 17.
