Paramus Receives Clean Communities Grant

PARAMUS, NJ — The Department of Environmental Protection has awarded annual Clean Communities grants to counties and municipalities in the state, and Paramus is among the communities receiving money.

In total, over $19 million was awarded in grants, with over $17 million given to municipalities and over $2 million distributed to the state's 21 counties.

Paramus received $47,515.43 from the grant distribution. Bergen County received $141,166, fourth most of the state's counties, trailing only Ocean, Cumberland and Burlington counties.

According to a news release announcing the recipients, the Clean Communities grants are intended to help municipalities and counties remove litter to "beautify neighborhoods, improve water quality and enhance quality of life."

"Clean Communities grants help municipalities and counties with the important task of removing unsightly litter, often from roadways and around stormwater collection systems, to enhance quality of life," said Commissioner Catherine R. McCabe. "Beautifying our communities through these types of cleanups help improve water quality and natural resources while also protecting wildlife and their habitats."

According to the release, the reporting requirements for the program are overseen by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council.
