Paramus Residents Urged to Renew Pet Licenses in 2013

Pet owners have until June 30 to renew their dog and cat licenses in the borough

Paramus Borough Health Officer Judith Migliaccio reminds all borough residents that they are required to renew all dog and cat licenses beginning in January for the new year. Pet owners who do not apply for renewal by June 30, 2013 are liable for fines as well as a $10 late charge if renewing after July 1.

Application for pet licenses should be made in the office of the Health Department in Borough Hall. License applications may be downloaded from the attached PDF on the right or from the Borough website, paramusborough.org.

Pet owners must provide a current rabies vaccination certificate, valid though Oct. 31, 2013 for a one-year license or through Oct. 31, 2015 for a three-year license when submitting a license application.

If no valid certification is provided, residents are required to have their pet re-vaccinated before a license can be issued. Proof of spaying or neutering is also required if applicable.

The fee for a dog or cat license for one year is $12. for pets that have been spayed or neutered and $15 for all others. The fee for a dog or cat license for three years is $30 (spayed/neutered) or $40 for all others.

Mrs. Migliaccio advised that it is important to be aware that rabies is present in wild animals in Bergen County. The State of New Jersey recommends euthanasia for unvaccinated dogs and cats with wounds of unknown origin. It is therefore vital that all dogs and cats be vaccinated and licensed.
