PSE&G: Repair Crews to Focus on Paramus This Weekend

Paramus is among more than a dozen towns in Bergen County which Public Service Electric and Gas repair crews will focus efforts over this weekend looking to restore power by Sunday, the company reported Saturday morning.

"Crews will be focusing on Teaneck, Englewood, Ridgewood, Fort Lee, Paramus, Bergenfield, Palisades Park, New Milford, River Edge, Glen Rock, Tenafly, Hackensack, Lodi and Bogota this weekend," the statement said.

According to PSE&G's plans for restoration, which Governor Christie released Saturday afternoon, the plan is to restore power to Paramus by end of day Sunday, Nov. 4.

Power had been restored to parts of Paramus over the course of the past few days but the majority of customers are still out. The work plan shows there are still about 3,800 people in Paramus without power.

Some more businesses reopened over the past two days on parts of Route 17 and Route 4. Various residential areas are on day six of no power as of Saturday morning. 

Of 333,690 PSE&G customers in Bergen County, 215,770 lost electricity, according to the company. As of Saturday morning, the utility reported 142,100 remained without service in the county. 

"Also in the last 24 hours we energized all of our switching stations and restored 16 substations. While energizing switching and substations does not automatically turn the lights on, it is a major step forward and allows to focus on our distribution systems that are closer to the customer," the statement said. 

PSE&G also announced it had established a mobile customer service center, offering charging stations, water and ice at the Paramus Park Mall. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

More than 2,000 outside workers were called to help PSE&G and another 600 were expected to arrive, according to PSE&G. In a press conference Thursday, Gov. Chris Christie said he told utility companies to step up repairs and issue new restoration timelines to residents. 

A PSE&G spokesman could not provide additional details Saturday afternoon.
