Spartan Trio Seek State Wrestling Titles This Weekend

Joe Trovato, Alex Sebahie and Brandon LoPresti will all compete for an individual state championship in Atlantic City this weekend

After finishing in fifth place last year at the State Individual Wrestling tournament, Paramus Spartan Joe Trovato has punched his ticket to return to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City this weekend.

Trovato is one of three Paramus wrestlers that will compete for a state individual championship this weekend. He will be joined by Alex Sebahie and Brandon LoPresti.

The trio earned their chance at glory after finishing in second (Trovato) and third (Sebahie, LoPresti) in last week's Region 2 tournament.

Trovato suffered a 2-1 overtime decision to Don Bosco's Sam Cali in the 120 finals. Sebahie, a freshman, was able to outlast Bosco's Andrew Rosensweig (126), 7-3 in the consolations for his first trip to Atlantic City; and LoPresti earned a 6-4 decision over Chris Jacobson of Glen Rock/Saddle Brook.

The state wrestling tournament begins on Friday, 5pm with the first round followed by the 7pm pre-quarterfinals at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City.

Saturday's schedule starts is completely dedicated to wrestlebacks with the first round kicking off at 10am. The quarterfinals and second round follow at 12pm, the third round at 5pm and end with the semifinals and fourth round at 7pm.

Sunday picks up with the fifth round wrestlebacks at 10am with consolation finals for 3rd, 5th and 7th place at 11am. The finals will be held at 3pm.
