Star Spartan Follows Family Footsteps in Law Enforcement
Former Spartan gridiron star Michael Mordaga Jr. is the latest member of his family to serve in law enforcement as the newest Bergen County Sheriff's Officer

Halfway through his college career at Monmouth University, former Paramus Spartan Michael Mordaga Jr. was at a crossroads. The running back that rushed over 1,000 yards in a single season at PHS was seeing minimal playing time with the Hawks and wasn't likely to move up the roster.
After transfering to Montclair State University, the Criminal Justice graduate has now joined in his families lengthy dedication to serve and protect as the newest Bergen County Sheriff's Officer.
His father, Mike Sr., spent 30 years in law enforcement beginning in the Hackensack Police Department and then the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office before his retirement in 2007. Brothers Louis (Bergen County Prosecutor's Office) and Anthony (Hudson County Sheriff) also chose law enforcement careers.

The elder Mordaga was named the Hackensack Police Director this week, effectively ending a two-year period of conflict, legal battles and the conviction of former police Chief Ken Zisa in the Hackensack Police Department. Mike Sr. will begin his one-year post as the civilian police director on Feb. 4.
While at Mike Jr. competed under head coach Dan Sabella as a running back and linebacker, being named the WGHT Radio Player of the Year as a senior. In his final two seasons, he rushed for over 1,900 yards (the majority during his junior year) and 26 touchdowns and recorded 109 tackes, three sacks and four turnovers. He was also a four-year starter on the wrestling team.
