Stone Hits Rare Paramus Varsity Milestone, Nets 1000 Points

Paramus junior guard Brittany Stone is now the second all-time Lady Spartan to sink 1000 varsity career points on the court

OAKLAND - Paramus' Brittany Stone can walk a little taller and prouder after Thursday's nailbiting 37-35 victory over Indian Hills. The junior guard banked her 1000th career varsity point on a breakaway dash down court and sunk a jumper five minutes into the game.

Stone is now the second Lady Spartan in program history and first since 1989 to join the 1000 point club. The only other Paramus athlete from the girls team to reach the historic milestone was Danielle Baraty, who went on to net over 1000 points again during her college career.

"It feels pretty damn awesome," Stone said. "I'd much rather get a 1000 points and win than lose."

Stone entered the game against Indian Hills one point shy of the three-year accomplishment after banking 22 points during Tuesday's loss to Demarest. During the season so far, she has been averaging between 17 and 22 points per game.

The three-year varsity starter will now turn her attention to helping the Lady Spartans improve from their current 3-8 record. The Lady Spartans, who will miss out on the County tournament, have 13 regular season games left through the end of Febuary.

"We've been getting better," Stone said. "Hopefully we can start winning a bit more than we have been."

Head coach Scott Papetti added that defensively the team excells on the court but has struggled offensively and squandering early leads.

"It's a good thing when she [Stone] scores 1000 points and we win, rather than score 1000 and lose," Papetti said. "We're a young team and we need to learn how to play with the lead. Brittany has played varsity for three years now, hopefully she starts getting to the point of making everyone else around her better. It will make her a better high school and college player."

While it's still to early for Stone to commit to any college, she has already garnered interest from multiple Division I programs including Maryland, Iona, St. Francis (PA), Sacred Heart and Robert Morris universities.

Stone finished Thursday's victory with 20 points giving her a career total of 1020 points.
