Go Girls! Parsippany's Girls On The Run Completes Practice 5K

After the fun run at Veteran's Field, our 3rd to 5th graders are ready for the real deal... Running the Florham Park Jaycees 5K on Saturday.

On Tuesday, June 4, the Parsippany chapter of Girls on the Run completed their practice 5K at Parsippany's Veteran's Field.

In preparation for the fun event, the coaches decorated the pavilion with a Hawaiian theme replete with cute, plush flamingos (later given to each girl upon completion).

In keeping with the beachy vibe, each girl was given a tropical flower to wear in her hair for the run, and coaches created personalized, encouragement posters for them, as well.

Consistent with the group's message that emphasizes individual progress rather than direct competition, each girl was encouraged to "find her happy pace."

The coaches and the girls cheered one another on and the young participants successfully finished the practice 5K by running through their own crepe paper ribbons.

The group is looking forward to the Florham Park Jaycees 5K race this weekend on Saturday. If you get a chance to add some words of encouragement to the girls ahead of their big 5K, please post them below or on Facebook.
