PARSIPPANY, NJ — The Smith-Baldwin House could be on its way toward some Morris County-funded renovations. County officials will consider the house — plus 26 other historic sites — for grants from the Preservation Trust Fund.

The early 19th-century property is a landmark of the Troy Historic District. The Smith-Baldwin family owned the home for nearly 200 years. With no children to eventually take it over, they sold the property to the township, ensuring that no buyer would demolish the structure. Read more: Township to Buy Historic Baldwin House

The Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund Review Board reviewed applications for grant funding. The governing body will pass two requests to the Morris County Board of Commissioners relating to the Smith-Baldwin House.

The review board will recommend that the county commissioners allocate $56,496 for shutters and $15,184 for the completion of construction documents. The first grant would contribute toward exterior rehabilitation with new, operable wood shutters.

The latter grant would provide for the completion of construction documents related to interior work, which would include a barrier-free bathroom, new finishes, fixtures, lighting and a new HVAC for the kitchen wing.
