Parsippany Man Stable After Being Struck By Vehicle on Route 46

A Parsippany man is in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 46 early Saturday morning, police said.

The 30-year-old man was struck near the intersection of New Road at about 6:10 a.m. Saturday, Officer Earl Kinsey said.

The investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing the highway in the crosswalk from the north side to the south side of the roadway with the right of way, Kinsey said. But when the man reached the middle lane of Route 46 East, the traffic now had a green light, Kinsey said.

“Due to the time and day of the crash, traffic was very light and there were no vehicles stopped at the light on Route 46 while it was red," Kinsey said.

The man then proceeded across the eastbound lanes when a 1995 Toyota Camry driven by a Lake Hiawatha resident came at a "highway speed" and struck the pedestrian, Kinsey said.

The pedestrian was transported to Morristown Medical Center where he had surgery and is in stable condition, Kinsey said.

Police said the Morris County Sheriff’s Department responded to take laser measurements and Montville officers as well as NJ DOT units also assisted with traffic control. Parsippany District 5 Fire and Parsippany Rescue and Recovery also responded to assist with lighting.
