Intervale Road Bridge To Close For Four Months

PARSIPPANY, NJ—The Intervale Road Bridge is about to be replaced, closing the road to traffic for about four months, the township announced Tuesday. The project's $726,360 cost was financed by Morris County, and both approaches to the span will be replaced.

The diminutive bridge is only six feet long, so it's often overlooked, but carries about 600 vehicles per day. It spans part of Troy Brook, which flows from Manor Lake.

According to the Township of Parsippany, the stone masonry is from the original bridge, built about 120 years ago, and is deteriorating. The bridge was widened around 1940.

At 31 feet wide with guard rails on both sides, the bridge carries two lanes of traffic. An approximately one mile detour will be in place while the county-owned span is replaced.

The township said it is an ideal time for road construction.

"Morris County is moving ahead on many bridge projects this year," said the township's statement, "taking advantage of the COVID-19 crisis to get work done with less impact on the motoring public."
