Joey Clayton, 8, To Be Laid To Rest Friday In Morris County

Rockaway Twp. third-grader succumbs to year-long battle with brain cancer.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – Joey was only eight, but inspired those who were decades older than him.

The “brave little warrior” and Morris County resident succumbed to his battle with brain cancer recently, according to his obituary.

Born in Pennsylvania, Clayton and his family landed in Rockaway Township more than two years ago. He was third grade student at Dennis B. O’Brien Elementary School.

Clayton enjoyed playing soccer and basketball, loved watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawk, Avengers, Batman, and was a WWE super fan who got to meet his favorite wrestler John Cena.

“Joey was extremely brave and strong,” his obituary said. “He fought everyday with a beautiful smile on his face and touched the hearts of everyone who met him. Joey truly appreciated everyone who helped and supported him in his fight. He was a hero and will continue to live on through all who love and know him including everyone who is a part of TEAM JOEY.”

Clayton is survived by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and a large extended family.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church on South Main Street in Wharton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Team Joey Foundation by making checks to the Clayton Family Fund, 3204A Caisson Court, Dover, NJ 07801.
