Just 27 miles outside of NYC, Parsippany residents are tied to NYC in many ways. On a daily basis, the parking lot on Route 46 and North Beverwyck Road is packed with commuters headed off to work in the City, amid shoppers, theater lovers, students and everything in between.
9/11 impacted our community greatly, and our town holds an annual Day of Remembrance for our 7 residents who lost their life that day. Beyond those who tragically lost their lives, our community has so many stories of survivors, rescuers, those who worked nearby, as well as connections with friends and families who were impacted.
In studying American history during 5th grade at Lake Hiawatha School, the teachers aligned the curriculum to coincide with the date, and ensured that the discussion was sensitive to the group's young age. The projects blended creativity, history and current events.
