Man Smashed Car, Hit Driver With Pipe In Parsippany: Police

The driver refused medical attention, and the suspect was taken to the Morris County jail.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — An Alabama man smashed a car and hit a person with a pipe Saturday in Parsippany, police said. Malkolm Matthews, of Tuscaloosa, now faces several chrages.

The incident took place at about 9 p.m. Saturday around 500 Parsippany Road, police said. Matthews, 25, was in an argument with the driver of the vehicle in which he traveled and requested they pull over so he could exit, according to authorities.

The driver pulled over to let Matthews out and then saw him approach with a metal pipe, according to the Parsippany Police Department. Matthews began to strike the vehicle and then smashed the driver-side window, the victim told police.

As the pipe struck the window, it also hit the driver's head, causing a laceration, officials said. The driver refused medical attention.

Matthews was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (third-degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (third-degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (fourth-degree) and criminal mischief (disorderly-persons offense).

Officials took him to the Morris County jail, pending his initial court hearing.
