PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany officials may soon reopen Town Hall and municipal buildings to the public, the township announced Tuesday. Barring an unexpected uptick in coronavirus cases, local officials expect to reopen the buildings in the coming weeks.

The township closed its municipal buildings to the public Dec. 7 because of an ongoing spike in new COVID-19 cases in Parsippany. All township departments continued operating on regular schedules but conducted in-person business through appointments only.

Since then, Parsippany saw a "significant" decline in new COVID-19 cases, according to the township. Parsippany reported 34 new cases this past week — the township's lowest total since October. For the first time in months, the New Jersey Department of Health downgraded Morris County and the state from "high" to "moderate" COVID-19 risk in Thursday's weekly activity report.
