Parsippany Men Win at USATF Master's Event in Winston Salem, NC
Three of the teammates are coaches of the Parsippany Express Youth Cross Country Team.
On March 2, 2019, Parsippany Express Youth Cross Country Coaches Tom Metz, John Hanlon and Richard Carlson, along with an additional teammate for the event, Brian Crowley, took first place in the the USATF National Masters Indoor Championship in the Men's 50-54 age group for the 4x800 race at the JDL Fast-Track in Winston Salem, N.C.
The National Championship meet consisted of a relay—each teammate runs 800 meters which is 4 laps around the track. The men ran as part of the Garmin Running Club which placed 24th out of the 94 clubs that competed. Prior to the event, they trained via track workouts on Saturdays for 4 weeks.
Coach Metz leads the Parsippany Express Youth Cross Country Team that has a fall season - he has developed the team from a small group of 35 kids to over 100 in the most recent 2018 season. The team is for kids ages 6-14 and continually welcomes new participants. For more information, parents can visit the team's website.

When asked what inspired his love of running, Coach Metz said, “It is the ultimate way to challenge yourself to see what your body can do, as well as a great way to spend quality time with your teammates who become lifelong friends.”
