Parsippany Police Captain's Retirement Comes with $330K Payout

Back in 2011, Parsippany-Troy Hills Mayor James Barberio was one of 234 mayors who supported Gov. Chris Christie's push to eliminate vacation and sick time payouts for retiring public employees.

Earlier this year, Parsippany Police Chief Anthony DeZenzo retire with a total payout, according to the OPRAed documents, of $395,086.10. According to Barberio, the contractual agreements were made prior to the start of his administration in 2009 and the town had no choice but to honor them, but he "share(s) the governor’s outrage at the amount of money paid to public employees for accumulated sick and vacation time."

Now, just a few months later, Parsippany Capt. Jeffrey Storms is retiring with a $330,487.72 payout in unused time and a $106,989.96 yearly pension, according to NJ.com. Storms will receive his pension in $8,915.83 monthly payments, William Quinn, a state Treasury Department spokesman, told NJ.com .
