PILOT Deals are not the Answer; in Housing Predicament
What good has the Tax ratable chase done Parsippany? Home Rule is Developers Rule. Property rights over Community and Ecology
PILOT Deals are not the Answer; in Housing Predicament. 1515 Route 10
Last Council meeting Chance to amend PILOT..failed
Parsippany Officials in my option, and with evident reactions are still governed by fear, and ignorance concerning the affordable housing predicament caused by the Mount Laurel Decisions, which were based on found racist tactics and policies in housing opportunities. This whole issue of rights of living space and affordability were given over to the private section, or the corporate property owners and the building trades; rather than some government subsidized, scientifically planned land use, considering all factors required for the proper outcome. Although the need is “affordable housing for low and moderate-income people or families” we continue to allow luxury and other unneeded elements; for example retail and office, in a over-developed landscape of vacant, luxury, office and retail space. Under the guise of affordable housing developers are now being allowed to have a minimum of affordable units they can force on a municipality to meet the criteria of what they deem fair a 4 for 20 ratio; in favor of a profit motive, including additional unneeded retail or office space, in some contrived fantasy speculation where it is common knowledge office and retail are played out...That then they allege cause them a hardship?
Now add PILOT deals and fabricated hardships created by the developers in making unneeded elements above mentioned. The purpose of any community is to off-set costs to municipal home owners through tax-ratables, because we discovered in our system single family homes is a net loser compared to costs incurred for Schools, roads, infrastructure, police, and fire. (The system itself stemming from the Federal Power does not support it’s own hosts; the States of the United States; and their required public infrastructure). So bad planning in the past invested in a private economy has encouraged again more private interference in changing community character, through developers’ eyes. Parsippany geographic position made it a target for suburban and corporate sprawl. All this landscape character change came with little regard to real human needs or natural systems. Our water deficit and infrastructure problems are a result of this in our present day. Let us say Parsippany is suffering from the inevitable reality of “emergent properties”; aspects of a complex system’s behavior that result from interactions within the system that couldn’t have been predicted by an examination of the system’s parts. The whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. We are shall we say; victims of the Myth of Progress, and the dead end tax-ratable chase. Our whole society has still failed to realize that short-term thinking and continued privatization of real needs keep sending US in an “anti-ecological direction, in an immoral economy. On every level of what we call government we lack the required ecological spiritualism and unity as a people to solve our long-term predicaments. Where does it say, to meet a housing obligation you must accept PILOT deals and accept that local taxpayers must help corporate for profit developers subsidized their self-created hardship? Apparently certain Council Members do!
This fellow citizen is called extortion and legal theft of the common… Affordable Housing has environmental policies, which Parsippany Officials in the past have ignored to the detriment of all; In an over-developed landscape what can we all expect something must be done with these structures, something that makes sense. Housing is not a threat it is a responsibility that has not been met by this Nation in a just manner. Parsippany former administration did us no justice. It elements still linger. Lastly how was the UPS PILOT deal allowed by the former administration, UPS profited $14 Billion in 2014.
