Smile! Your Kid's In His Camera?
New state legislation under consideration to protect against taking images of minors.

Who has the right to take pictures of your children? In public places, anyone. But, should they?
District 40 Assemblyman David Russo (R-Bergen) is sponsoring a bill that would outlaw anyone from taking pictures of a child in public without their parents' consent.
According to The Star-Ledger, “The bill would ban taking pictures or taping children in situations in which ‘a reasonable parent or guardian would not expect his child to be the subject of such reproduction.’”
This was prompted by a 63-year-old-man who was photographing girls under the age of 10 swimming at a lake in Ringwood. When questioned about this, he noted that he found the girls “sexy,” the article states.
So, Parsippany moms (and dads), what do you think? Should there be restrictions on taking photos of your kids? What implications does that have on freedom of the press?
Editor's note: Patch does not photograph anyone under the age of 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian, or permission from a school or organization.
